Cuba BJJ Project

Cuba BJJ is a project close to Chiu’s heart, created to help introduce and develop Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Cuba.

Despite the country’s economic challenges, there is a huge amount of enthusiasm and potential among people who want to learn and train. The aim of the project is simple: make BJJ accessible to anyone who wants to take part, regardless of their circumstances.

Chiu travels to Cuba to provide free BJJ classes, share his experience and bring as many donated kimonos and pieces of training equipment as possible. The project also supports local martial arts communities, including young judoka training in San Isidro, Habana Vieja, one of Havana’s most deprived areas.

With the support of students, friends and sponsors, Chiu plans to continue returning to Cuba, building relationships with local practitioners and helping BJJ establish lasting roots on the island.
